On Monday nite at our softball game I was hit in the face with the ball. I have to say that it was completely my fault as no one is to blame for me not being as observant and focused as I should’ve been. The best way I can get my point across is to give you the play by play 🙂
So I’m playing 3rd base (not my normal position), runner on 2nd got caught in between a tag situation. The short stop rocketed a right on throw to me. With my glove up to make the catch the runner slides at my feet and I take my eye off the ball for 2 sec to see him at my feet and BAMMMM the ball missed my glove and clobbered my face! So yea completely my fault but pay attention here’s where the story gets inspiring.
I fall to the ground and my teammates run to my side as I’m curled up in ball face to the ground. It took 2 deep gasps of air and tears and I came to my feet. This wasn’t stopping me. I played the rest of the inning and finished the game too, icing it when we were up to bat and battling the throbbing. I left with quite a goose egg!
That night all I could think of was how my face was going to look and feel in the morning, which turned into me wondering about how many people don’t play sports because they could get hurt. I was one of those people 8 years ago. Being a massage therapist/trainer, my hands, arms, shoulders, and body are my livelyhood. If I get hurt I lose money and potentially my career. So for quite a while I gave up the things that could put me in that danger. It left me in a sad place. I wasn’t being true to me and is one of the key components of where #GoDoBe came from. So now I don’t fear the injury or the bruises but embrace them as an added challenge to NOT get them while I’m enjoying my passions.
So I shrugged it off and went to sleep. I mean come on I got hit in the face with a ball how bad could it be? I already knew my eye/nose were ok and that I was not concussed so what’s the worst that could happen…a little bruising…
or I could wake up with just a little swelling and be A ok…(apparently I’ve got a hard head and am a healthy healer)
There are alot of morals to this story and I hope you caught them…but I have to say that shiner looked pretty real huh? (Theatre makeup too much fun)
Ready to recap..
“Don’t let the fear of Striking out (getting hurt) Keep you from Playing the game”
There is a reason why they say “DON’T take your eye off the BALL”
“There is No Crying in Baseball” (Love Tom Hanks)
Softball ‘Theres nothing “soft” about it …It just leaves a bigger bruise”
No Grass Stains, no dirt rash, no bruises….No Story.. Play the game
